Early name of town was Helapuri at the time of Vengi Empire of Buddhist community. This small but attractive town was the part of Kalinga Dynasty as well. Sultan of Golconda also ruled the town in 15th century.

Attraction of Eluru:
Dwaraka Tirumala: In south India many temples are known as Tirumala. The first place to visit in Eluru is Dwaraka Tirumala temple also recognized as Chinna Tirupathi. A wonderful idol of God Venkateswara is placed in the temple. However, the shrine is on the top of Seshadri Hill.



Kolleru Lake: Amazing location such as Kolleru Lake is available for you. It is the biggest fresh water pond of India spread between the Krishna districts and West Godavari of AP (Andhra Pradesh). The other names of lake are Bird Heaven and Peerless Fisherman’s Paradise.



Kolleru Bird Sanctuary: A park located at only distance of 15 km from Eluru city is next destination for travelers. The park is spread in 673 square km area of wetland covered with popular lake Kolleru in one direction.



Eluru Ashram: A best place known as NDNK (Nam Datta Natha Kshetra) is next spot in the list of tourist attractions of Eluru. This place is associated to Datta Peetham. A small shrine in ashram area is popular spot having idols of Goddess Anagha Devi and Lord Dattatreya. Some more idols in the temple are of God Ganesha, Hanuman and Navagrahas.



Adikesava Embermannar Temple: A big shrine is vital place to visit in Eluru. Vaishnavs reach this place in large amount to get blessings of their deity. The shrine is 200 years old and the structural design is almost same to popular Sriperumbudur temple.



Gangeshwar Alayam: Another temple known as Gangeshwar Alayam is positioned in Tadikalapudi area. The distance between Tadikalapudi and Eluru is only 20 kms. Construction of temple was done by Bhishma from Indian Epic Mahabharata.

Attaining to Eluru:
If you are coming from Hyderabad then you have to travel for 331 km distance to reach Eluru. However, if you get the route from Chennai then travel for 507 kms, from Nagpur cover 723 kms gap and Bangalore clear the gap of 800 kms.

By Air: Closest big international airport for Eluru is Hyderabad located at 331 kms distance. Private taxi is available from the airport for Eluru. The next big airport for town is Vishakhapatnam located at 330 km distance.

By Rail: Vijayawada railway station is serving the nation with many big trains connected to major cities of India. Vijayawada is only 72 km away from Eluru and frequent trains are available for Vijayawada. Trains from ChennaiKolkataBangaloreNew DelhiHyderabad and other cities are accessible in large amount for Vijayawada.

By Road: AP tourism is having buses for Eluru from Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad. However, other cities are also having bus service for the town but voyagers have to check the timetable of such buse services.
