Wardha - Historical Place of Maharashtra



Destinations of India are special because of diverse features. Today we are going to discuss about the Wardha city of Maharashtra state, India. The city is named after Wardha River and foundation period is 1866. This small city is turned as important centre of cotton business. City is holding the historical values for India as it was linked to Gandhi revolution era of nation.


In early phase the city was under Maurya’s, Satavahana’s, Sunga’s and Vakataka’s Empires. You will get some big monuments in this region developed by best Rulers of state at their ruling period. However, some more rulers of different dynasties ruled the city as well. You will find the signs of Chalukyas, Yadavas, Rashtrakutas, Bahamani Sultanate, Gonds, Muslim king of Berar and Marathas.


Wardha city was having big important because of cotton trade so British rulers also captured the city and ruled for longer period. 1934 was the major period of revolution of the local people with British rulers. This is the reason Wardha is having good values in Indian history.


City was the part of Nagpur region till 1862, though after separation Wardha itself turned as big region of Maharashtra.

Attraction of Wardha:
Kelzar: Travelers will find countless places to visit in this city. Kelzar is first spot for voyagers famous for Vinayak’s (God Ganesh) shrine. You will find the finest statue of God Ganesh located in the temple. The statue was designed by the artist of Arya society in early 19th century.


Vishwa Shanti Stupa: A place holds beauty is our next destination. Vishwa Shanti Stupa built in 1935 by Fuji guru of Japan. He came to Wardha to meet Mr. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and wished to build a Stupa (place of prayer for Buddha Community) in Wardha.


Gitai Mandir: A temple known as Vinoba’s Gitai shrine is turned as best destination for voyagers. Vinoba Bhave interpreted the Bhagwat Gita to Gitai. The finest feature of this shrine is it is different than general temple because there is no ceiling and walls in the temple.


Gandhi Gyan Mandir: Another spot is public library located parallel to Bajajwadi.  Mahatma Gandhi was the big reader of books and he wrote many books as well. Good collection of books written by Gandhi ji is available in this temple.


Sewagram: Also known as Bapu Kuti is next spot for travelers. Gandhi ji came to Wardha in 1934. Big business man Mr. Jamnalalji Bajaj requested Gandhi ji to announce the Sewagram (free hospitality center) in this area. He offered the Segaon village for Ashram known as Bapu Kuti.


Paramdham Ashram: An ashram known as Paramdham is one more attraction of Wardha. Paramdham Ashram is located in Paunar Village founded by Shri Vinoba Bhave in 1934. Dham River is flowing from this region.


Bor Dam: If you like to spend time at Dam areas then visit Bor Dam located in Bori village, Selu. The distance of Dam and Wardha city is just 32 Kms. This dam is constructed on Bor River. Amazing gardens and picnic spots are important attractions of this place.


Hue-En-Sang Dhamma Camp and Stupa: attain to Bor Dam area and enjoy the Dhamma camp centre. Don’t forget to visit the Stupa as well because you will get a good mental piece as this place.


Garpit: A town of Karanja Tahasil is another spot closer to Wardha city housing dense forest at only distance of 64 Kms. Enjoy watching live animals in this forest but you have to be careful while entering in forest.

Girad: A finest location of Wardha region is Girad located at only gap of 59 KM. Visit tomb of Sheikh Fahrid baba in this area. Lord Rama temple is also famous of Girad area located closer to the tomb.


Dhaga: Wardha is having many villages in region and one of them is Dhaga located on hills of Satpuda ranges. Lord Shiva temple placed at 3 Km distance is also major attraction of town.


Magan Sangrahalaya: this is a museum inaugurated on 30th Dec, 1938 by Gandhi Ji. Dr. J C Kumarappa developed this museum with huge collection of ancient period and Gandhi era.


RBPS (Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti): A institution started in year 1936 is popular for President ship of Doctor Rajendra Prasad.


Laxmi Narayana Mandir: A Vishnu and Laxmi mata temple is our next spot in Wardha. The shrine is constructed in 1905 with marble interior. The reason behind opening this temple was to allow low caste people to pray their god. Jamnalal Ji opened this shrine in 19th July, 1928 for lower caste citizens.


Bajaj Wadi, Ashti, Sonegaon, Kapshi, Koteshwar, Pothara, Pardi, Pohana, Mandgaon, Mahakali temple and Hinganghat are some more special destinations available in Wardha for voyagers.

Attaining to Wardha:
If you have decided to come to Wardha from Nagpur then you have to cover the distance of 77 kms, though Bhopal is 468 km away, Indore is 475 km away, Hyderabad is 499 km away and Pune is 687 km far.

By Rail: Wardha is properly linked by rail. Train is the easiest and cheapest mode of transport in India. Trains for Wardha are available from MumbaiPuneChennaiHyderabadBangalore and Nagpur.

By Air: The nearest domestic airbase for Wardha is Nagpur. Frequent flights for Nagpur are available from Mumbai. However Mumbai is international airport so abroad voyagers can plan their trip to this metro city.

By Bus: Maharashtra State Transport is having buses for Wardha from NagpurChennaiHyderabad and some more big cities of India.
