Zanskar



Hill station and its surrounding are always beautiful no matter if the hill station is of India or any abroad. However, some spots are nature made and perfect for vacations. India is having countless unexplored tourist destinations where travelers can reach and spend beautiful time of their life. Talking about the unexplored tourist destination in India Zanskar is one of the small cities located at Kargil border, Kashmir. Zanskar is hardy Buddhist vale can be attained after hard and long one week trek. Average distance from lower area to Zanskar hill is around 14 hour continue walk. Suru River flows from Zanskar so people can trek from the side of such river to get proper path for Zanskar. Local people of valley are mainly of Buddhist community. It is the place still having own king then none other place of India.

Attaining to Zanskar is not at all possible between November-May as city get completely cut off from the world. The reason is heaviest snowfall during the winter which covers the almost complete area of city. The hills of this place get enclosed with blanket of flurry in winter season. Local people store the food in summer for every cold season as they rarely come out from the home in winter.

Zanskar is the famous destination for trekkers and people are coming from around the world to this city. Bikers and car owners must carry the extra petrol while going to Zanskar as there is no petrol pump in place.

Zanskar is truly a sub-region (Tehsil) of Kargil, J&K, India. The city is bordered with Ladakh and it was the part of Guge Empire in Tibet.

Altitude of Zanskar is 6,000 meters from sea level and its east side is recognized as Rupshu. The city divides Kinnaur region from Spiti of HP (Himachal Pradesh).

The city is spread in 7,000 square kms located near Zanskar River.

Shingo La is the key route connects Zanskar to Lahaul which is another city of Kargil region. The path is quite dangerous but full of adventure so voyagers will definitely enjoy the trip.

Attraction of Zanskar:
Padum: situated at good eight of 3,505 meters from the sea level is first place for voyagers. This prime spot of city is full of greenery and the deep green attractive valley is best of Padum.

Zanskar River: next spot of Zanskar is the river starts from the slopes in north direction of Himalaya. Local people recognize this place as Tsarap Chu.

Zanskar Valley: to enjoy the rich flora of Zanskar tourist must attain to valley. Taking pleasure of Drang-Drung Glacier, watercourses and grazing lands can be done in this valley.

Karsha: another small village situated close to Zanskar is Karsha. The biggest monastery of district is positioned in Karsha village.

Rangdum: next spot for voyagers is located at Leh District known as Rangdum. The spot comes between Padum and Kargil. Travelers can enjoy hills, streams, pastures and glaciers at Rangdum allowing trekking feature to visitors. Reaching Henaskot located near Lamayuru is also attainable from Rangdum.

Stongde: also recognized as Stongdey is next stop which is the town of Ladakh district. Average altitude of spot is 3500 meters comes under Kargil region. The monastery of Stongde was constructed under the supervision of Lama Lhodak Choski Lodos in year 1052.

Drang-Drung Glacier: people who love watching Glacier should reach this location. Positioned athwart the Suru Valley of J&K is our next tourist destination. Here travelers can also enjoy Panzila watershed of Ladakh district. View of high Himalaya ranges and Kargil hill is possible from Drang-Drung Glacier.

Suru River: flowing water in high pressure is always appreciated spot particularly for river lovers.  Suru River originates from Zanskar flowing from northern slopes of Ladakh district. However, the river is totally depending on snowy of hills that get melt in summer.

Panikhar Fort: our next destination is Panikhar Fort developed to separate Valley of Suru from Panikhar. It was constructed by Zorawar Singh Ji and his army to separate the location from Suru. Construction was done in 1832 at the time of entrance of Zorawar Singh in Ladakh to triumph over Tibet.

Baralacha Pass: another location is Baralacha Pass situated at 16,400 feet altitude from sea level. The long pass of eight km is fully covered with natural beauty scenery.

Zongkhul: religious people can attain to Zongkhul which is popular cavern monastery used by Sadhu’s for contemplation. Attaining to Zongkhul at Huchot festival (as per Tibetan calendar) could be best moment of life.

Pipiting: a village positioned in Zanskar is another tourist spot. The village is also recognized as Stupa which means temples of Buddhist community. Dalai Lama from Tibet presented lectures at different intervals at Pipiting.

Phuktal Gompa: constructed in beehive shape is one more location of Zanskar. Built at the end of 11th century and popular for meditation room and a huge hall for prayer. 

Few other Zanskar tourist places are Rangdum Gompa, Khurana River, Penzella Pass, and Tangol, Shagma Karphu.

Attaining to Zanskar:
By Train: the closest and big railway hub to attain the city is Jammu linked to almost each city of India. The distance between Zanskar and Jammu is only 238 km and easy buses and taxies are available from external area of station.

By Air: Big airport is Jammu for Zanskar. Reaching Jammu allow visitors to enjoy the haven state of India so attain to Jammu allow visitors to enjoy multiple places of state.

Vaishno Devi
