Solapur

Solapur, one of the biggest cities of Maharashtra is the target of the day. It is the 6th largest city of state as well. This city is bordering two states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka. People from different communities are living in this city. You will find Marathi, Kannada, Urdu and Telugu languages, though Marathi is the spoken by maximum people.


Solapur is basically a trade center having big textile factories. This is the reason city is also known as Manchester of India. Bed sheets and towels of Sholapur are famous throughout the world. Power looms and cotton mills are other major industries to the city. Worlds 2nd biggest spinning mill is located in Solapur.


Solapur is the word that means 16 villages (sola = 16 and pur= villages). We can say Solapur is a mixture of 16 different villages such as Aadilpur, Chapaldev, Ahmedpur, Fatehpur, Kalajapur, Jamdarwadi, Khadarpur, Muhammadpur, Khandervkiwadi, Ranapur, Shaikpur, Sandalpur, Solapur, Sonapur, Sonalagi and Vaidakwadi.


Solapur played important role in India’s freedom from British Rule. Many freedom fighters were sentenced death by the British court nearly 1930.

India's tourism is an all-time favorite for abroad voyagers. Solapur is turned as a good choice for such people. Few historical spots, temples, gardens, chokes and monuments are a major attraction in the city.



Tourist Attraction:
According to sources, there are nearly 80 places to visit in Solapur. However, it's not easy to cover all destinations in this short note. People also cannot cover all the spots in a few days. They should spend around 1 ½ week in the city to take pleasure on the spot. In these 80 places, maximum locations are small and big temples.


Akkalkot: A temple of Swami Samarth Ji Maharaj, who was the form of Shri Dattatreya. Chaitra Shukla Trayodashi is the major event period of the temple.

Siddheshwar Temple: Another Temple constructed by followers of Mallikarjuna of town Srisailam, Shree Siddharameshwar.


Phandharpur: Another important shrine of the city famous as the ancient temple dedicated to God Vitthal and Deity Rukmini. Renovated in late 1195 by the administration famed for Kuldaivat of state.


Few holier  spots around the city are Swami Samarth Temple, Withoba Temple, Shani Temple, Sant Tukaram Temple, Sambhaji Lake, Sadanandi Mata Temple, Rukmini Temple, Rangraj Temple, Ram Temple, Panchamukhi Temple, Nilkanteshwar Temple, New Life Fellowship Church, Nagnath Mandir, Methodist Church, Maruti Temple, Markandeya Udyan, Mahalaxmi Mandir, and many more.



Bustard Sanctuary: The most interesting place for birdwatchers. Grassland species are the key attraction. Quails, Sandgrouse, Larks, Indian Bustard, Indian Coursers, Eurasian Doves and Red Collared are most known birds of the park. Vehicle entry into the park is not allowed because of noise pollution protection. Blackbuck is easily visible in the park.

Bazaar: Purchase the favorite textile items from the best markets within the city. You are getting a chance to visit Aamina Bazaar, Meena Bazaar and local market buy bedsheets, covers, towels, curtains and many other items.


Hazrat Shah Dargah: The Muslim religious place that is located at few km distances from central Solapur. People have been huge believe in Dargah; they think all wishes get fulfilled if you pray with true values at the Dargah.

Solapur Qila: A historical palace built in the central part from the city. Lots of the rulers of Chalukas and other dynasties ruled the city at several cities. City faced countless battles since the ancient period, but the fort is still alive. The strong foundation of the fort will still keep this fort active for a longer time.

Transport for Solapur:
By Rail: Railway station in Solapur is connected to major cities of India. Trains from Southern cities and Western cities of India are available in good frequency. You can get the trains to Solapur from Pune, Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai and many more cities.

By Road: City is properly linked through road as well. Maharashtra state buses are available from Hyderabad, Mangalore, Dhule, Ratnagiri, Nagpur, Sangli, Nanded and Kolhapur.


By Air: Solapur domestic airport is available, but the airport is not having any flights. Lack of requirement is the reason you will not get any flight to Solapur. However, private charted plans can be hired to reach this destination.
