Looking to escape the city? At 1,700 meters above sea level, Khirsu is high enough to make you feel like a mountain goat but low enough that your ears won't pop into another dimension. Located just 15 km from Pauri, it’s the ultimate "two-for-one" deal for people who want to see Uttarakhand without spending half their life in a car.
Why Should You Care? π€
Khirsu is basically the shy, overachieving cousin of the more famous hill stations. It’s got:
The Ghandiyal Devi Temple: For when you need some ancient spiritual vibes.
Apple Orchards: It’s like a giant cider ad, minus the hangover.
Himalayan Views: The mountains are so visible, they basically stare back at you.
The "Flamboyant Charm": It’s peaceful, it’s placid, and it’s so quiet you can actually hear your own thoughts (scary, I know).
Things to Do (Besides Nap) πΆ♂️
The "Don't Get Lost" Nature Walk: Wander through thick forests of Pine, Deodar, and Oak. It’s "breath-taking"—partly because of the beauty, and partly because of the uphill hiking.
Village Lurking: Since it's a "hidden jewel," there are more birds than tourists. You get to enjoy nature without some guy named Gary ruining your photo with his selfie stick.
Sleeping Arrangements π€
Accommodation here is cheaper than your monthly streaming subscriptions.
GMVN Guest House: The hottest ticket in town. Book online unless you enjoy sleeping under a very pretty Deodar tree.
Eco-Tourism Camps (ETC): Available March to October for that "I'm one with nature but I'd like a tent" vibe.
The Pauri Backup: If Khirsu is "full" (all ten people are there), Pauri is just 15 km away with actual hotels.
Getting There (The Odyssey) π
It’s 330 km from Delhi, making it a great weekend getaway if you enjoy long-distance driving and snacks.
✈️ By Air: Fly into Jolly Grant Airport (145 km away). Grab a taxi and try not to close your eyes during the mountain turns.
π By Rail: Hop off at Rishikesh (132 km away). It’s holy, it’s busy, and it’s a great place to realize you still have a long drive ahead.
π By Road: If you’re brave, take a bus from Pauri, Kotdwar, or Srinagar. It’s a great way to make 40 new friends in a very small space.
Pro-Tip: Stay for 3 or 4 days. Your alarm clock will be replaced by chirping birds, and the sunlight hitting the Himalayas is so pretty you'll run out of adjectives to describe it. Just go. Seriously.
