Thiruchendur - Beach Place of Tamil Nadu


Religious people always look for the areas where they can get the mental peace. Thiruchendur is the holy town blessed by God Muruga. This place is situated in Toothukudi region, Tamil Nadu, India. According to Hindu myth it is the prime religious place for pilgrims. This shrine is constructed near beach of Thiruchendur popular for backdrop as well. Lord Muruga is also known as Senthil Aandavar. Two other major shrines of Thiruchendur are Deivayanai and Valli. 


Thiruchendur town is not much developed but the natural scenery of the town is best among all. The dry theri forests are famous for plantation of cashew. The thick Palm trees and other steamy trees are also famous of the town. 


People believe the reason behind red soil of town is killing of the thief ordered by native God named as Karkkuuvel Ayyanar. Sources say Vanniaraja was the man to kill of Ayyanar and he was killing the people of the village who try to steal the land of villagers. Because of such story this place is completely safe from any kind of theft. 

This town is growing but due to slow growth ratio there are limited shopping malls, hotels, restaurants and some high sky structural areas.

Prime Attraction of Thiruchendur: 
Panchalamkurichi Fort: this is the first place to visit known as Kattabomman Memorial Fort. The fort is constructed near to Thiruchendur. Sources say the fort was constructed under the supervision of famous Panchalamkurishi Ruler Veera Kattabomman and the year was of 18th era.


Thiruchendur Murugan Kovil: a holy place devoted to God Muruga is next spot for visitors. The shrine is famous for huge 9 rows Gopuram. The idol of Thiruchendur Murugan is placed in the temple. Some other temples in the area are Senthilandavarand or Arumuga Nayinar, Shanmugar. The idols of Lord Shiva and Vishnu are placed in these temples. 


Melaputhukudi Ayyanar Temple: Thiruchendur is the holy place and there are countless big and small temples in the town. Melaputhukudi Ayyanar is one more shrine located at only gap of 10 Kms from central part of Thiruchendur town. 


Tuticorin: a small but attractive city known as Tuticorin is next destination for voyagers. The other name of Tuticorin is Pearl City. It is close to sea and famous for marine activities. It is one of the outstanding ports of India got popularity since 6th era. Here you can enjoy the pearl diving, shipbuilding and fishing in sea.


Valli's Cave: a place having cave is other another spot named as Valli's Cave. This amazing spot is popular for Dattatreya's Cave positioned under granite cliff. View of sea from the cave is different experience fo the travelers. However to reach Valli’s cave you have to reach northern sea shore of Thiruchendur.


Kudirai Mozhitheri: one of the best attractions of Thiruchendur is Kudirai Mozhitheri. It is just 12 Kms away from Thiruchendur town. The natural water spring is best thing to watch in Kudirai Mozhitheri. 

Beaches: You will get beautiful beaches in the town which means you can spend more time in this calm and holy place. Make your holidays memorable by spending minimum one week time in Thiruchendur. 

Attaining to Thiruchendur: 
By Air: Madurai Airport is the closest domestic air hub for Thiruchendur. Madurai is another holy and best tourist destination of Tamil Nadu and the distance between airport and the spot can be covered in 3 hours only. Flights for Madurai Airport are available from Hyderabad, Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai. 

By Road: Thiruchendur town is properly linked by road to major cities of state. State buses are available from Thoothukudi (34 Kms), Tirunelveli (58 Kms), Sankarankovil (115 Kms), Aruppukkottai (129 Kms), Sivakasi (137 Kms), Rajapalayam (148 Kms), Madurai (180 Kms) and Rameshwaram (217 Kms). TNSRTC (Tamil Nadu State Road Transport Corporation) is having direct buses from mentioned cities. However, private travel services are also providing the luxury and deluxe buses to their customers. 

By Train: Tiruchendur Railway Station is having direct trains from Mysore, Coimbatore and Mumbai. However, train services from other cities are also available. You just have to cross check the timetable of the available train for Thiruchendur.
