Ernakulam



Ernakulam is the city located in Kochi region, Kerala,  India. This commercial capital of Kerala is popular for tourist destinations as well. Ernakulam city is housing High Court of Kerala,  Corporation Office of Kochi/Cochin and stock exchange of Cochin  Before independence, Ernakulam city was the capital of Cochin placed at 220 kms in north-west direction of Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram.

City got name after Lord Shiva’s temple Ernakulathappan Shrine located in the territory. Ernakulam becomes more attractive destination in monsoon because of heavy showers. As per records, the standard yearly rainfall is more than 3000 millimeter. Attaining to spot after July is beneficial as the rainfall get down accordingly. Approximately 124 days of year are full of rain in Ernakulam. The last highest temperature recorded of Ernakulam City was 33 degree Celsius in summer. However, least temperature recorded was 22.5 degrees Celsius in summer. During winter, temperature goes to 29-degree highest and 20 degree lowest.

Attraction of Ernakulam:
Hill Palace Museum: first place of city is hill palace, which was official home for regal family of 
Kochi.  Construction of hill palace was done in 1865. To attain the palace voyagers have to get the Ernakulam - Chottanikkara route that is only 10 kms distant from Ernakulam. 49 towers of palace are top thing to watch. 

Madhavan Nair Foundation: MNF (Madhavan Nair Foundation) is next location located at 8 kms distance city Ernakulam. Foundation is located at Edappally town housing the Museum of history and makers of Kerala.  Voyagers can attain to painting and statues gallery displaying more than 200 original statues done by contemporary artists of India. 

Kalady: birthplace of Sri Adi Shankaracharya is next holiday destination. Kalady is birth location of Sri Shankaracharya who was the big Advaita philosopher in 8th century. Here, travelers will be able to visit shrines dedicated to Lord Krishna, Sri Adi Shankaracharya, Sharada Devi, and Guru ji Ramkrishna. Next spot in similar location is Crocodile Ghat where Sri Shankaracharya did meditation. 

Kodanad: high hill ranges of Kodanad are popular in south India located on banks of Periyar. The biggest training center of elephant is located in Kodanad.

Chendamangalam: a place with combination of 3 rivers is another picnic spot known as Chendamangalam. There are 7 inlets, few hillocks and great expanded green areas in Chendamangalam. Spot having Paliam Palace that is must visit location-having abode of Paliath Achans. 



Malayattoor: a well-known catholic church at Malayattoor is our next spot for voyagers. Constructed on height of 609 meters in Malayattoor hill is popular for view of city as well. People dedicated this hill to Mr. Thomas. Attaining to church during annual festival of Malayattoor Perunnal conducted in March is best time to enjoy.


Bhoothathankettu: location Bhoothathankettu is place popular for dense virgin forest and a big dam. Spot is having mythological values located near to SABS (Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary) at Thattekkadu City. Periyar Valley Project and Idamalayar Project are two must visit locations placed nearby Bhoothathankettu. Voyagers can also try trekking at Bhoothathankettu as place is full of natural spots.

Thatekkad Bird Sanctuary: the bird park having greenery everywhere is another best location. People want to spend in forests can attain to this place, which is located at Devikulam Taluk region of Ernakulam City. Doctor Salim Ali recognized approximately 167 birds, though his student Dr. Sugathan identified 207 birds.

Attaining to Ernakulam:
Private and government buses are available in good amount for Ernakulam. However, auto rickshaws are accessible in city for transportation. Trains and ferries are also available for Ernakulam city. Ferries are cheaper comparing to other transport media in Ernakulam.

By Road: NH 47 is connected to Ernakulam city from various big cities of India. This national highway is connected to Thrissur, 
Coimbatore and Palakkad cities, which are again best spots for tourism. National Highway 47 is having two key exit points, one at Edapally and other at Vytilla. However, bus service is main transport medium to reach city comparing to taxis and autos.  KSRTC (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation) runs inter-state, district and metropolis services. Link of NH 17, NH 49 are also best way to attain Ernakulam.

By Rail: Ernakulam is the Junction turned as busiest railway hub in 
Kerala located close to town. Two stations of Ernakulam City such as ETS (Ernakulam Town Railway Station) and EJS (Ernakulam Junction) are having direct trains from various parts of country. Trains towards Alappuzha are holding at EJS whereas passenger trains are having stoppage at ETS. Trains from BangaloreChennaiCoimbatore,  and many other cities are available for Ernakulam.

By Air: International airport of 
Kochi/Cochin is closest big air hub to reach Ernakulam City. Distance of Cochin airport and Ernakulam is just 27 kms. Domestic flights from Hyderabad,  New Delhi,  Bangalore,  Mumbai,  Chennai and Kolkata are available in frequent level for Ernakulam. Kochi/Cochin is having direct abroad flights from Middle East cities such as Bahrain, Sharjah, Muscat, Jeddah, Doha, and Riyadh.  Flights from Southeast Asian metropolis such as Kuala Lumpur and Singapore are also available for Ernakulam.
